1.    Most of the traditional charger and simple charger are made up of industrial frequency transformer and rectifier circuit (silicon controlled rectifier (SCR)). Even use the silicon controlled rectifier to adjust the mains supply to charge the battery. Though the circuit of this charger is simple, but it has disadvantage:

A.  Big volume and weight, not convenient for transportation and use

B..  Lacking the perfect protection function, bad reliability

      C. Manual adjustment the charge current, difficult to full charge and avoid over charge the battery.

      D. Silicon controlled rectifier adjusts the mains supply to charge the battery directly. Then there is not isolation with the mains supply which is dangerous to get an electric shock. And it will damage the mains supply waveform.

2.    Over discharge, over charge and longtime non full charge of battery will shorten the battery lifespan. So at the same condition, choose a good performance charger is very important. That’s why the traditional charger user said the battery lifespan is shorter than rated.
